Description: You’ll sell your Mum for a crack at this one!

Family is great, but working with them can be a nightmare, am I right? Cousin Edward nipping out early, Aunt Phyllis getting into the sherry before closing time . . . But what if you could get close-knit clan vibes working with a large company that started out as a family business?

Our client is looking for a Perl software developer who will embrace their Modern Perl codebase, appreciate that it’s split into RESTful APIs, and enjoy using tools like Gearman and Memcached to deal with load spikes and batch work. Their perfect fit is someone who thrills at the thought of developing new features and exterminating bugs (software bugs, that is) while working to gather data and build custom reports for internal use.

Pack up the family station wagon and head over to delightful Central Manchester, where you’ll enjoy working in an office that is spacious, modern, and chock-a-block with fun perks like complimentary fruit and fancy coffee. The client offers tons of group activities outside of work, so you’ll be able to bond with your newfound family in no time. Add in a Cycle to Work scheme, season travel loans, matched pension contributions, and gym membership contributions, and you might be willing to sell your own mum to get in the door!

Now, we’re only kidding about pawning off dear old Mummy, but here’s the truth. The client is a family business for the modern age, 100% owned by the founders and directors. Their mission is to match flatmates to flatshares because after all, you can’t live at Mum’s forever. They’re looking for someone with a great attitude and a passion for collaboration—basically, someone who plays nice with the other kids and shares their toys.

This role is for a Perl developer who is interested in working with performance and security. If you have a penchant for finding speedy solutions to domain problems and customer issues, then you might be the right fit for this role. If you’re ready to join a family that does things a little differently, then ring us up—or email. Email works too . . . but call your Mum, would you? She misses you.
Desired skills: Exposure to Modern Perl is essential; you should be comfortable with using Perl’s testing tools, not be scared of DBIx::Class, and have come to grips with at least one of Perl’s excellent MVCs

Experience designing and integrating with RESTful APIs

Exposure to tooling for managing loads and spikes like Gearman and Memcached would be awesome too
