Description: Our UK-based client is a global leader in the enterprise technology publishing industry, providing audiences worldwide with stimulating perspectives and unique news on enterprise tech that matters today and tomorrow. They are currently seeking a passionate and exceptional Perl programmer based in the Philippines to join their team.

In this remote role, you will be responsible for managing the full life-cycle of software projects, including consultation with the business, designing, developing, and testing code. The majority of your work will involve back-end Perl code running on Debian servers, and you should also have experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Familiarity with Rust, SQL, and version control software such as Git is a bonus.

You will ensure that our client’s website remains top-notch and that journalists have the necessary tools to provide great content to our readers. You will communicate effectively with your team via email, phone, instant messaging, and online document tools such as Google Docs or MediaWiki.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable, adaptable, and eager to learn. Required qualifications include excellent communication skills, strong written and verbal English, the legal right to work in the Philippines, great Linux experience, and familiarity with common UNIX tools. Experience with templating systems, Apache and nginx, and working with both MySQL and PostgreSQL is a bonus.

Our client’s tech team is small, distributed, focused, and autonomous, and they favour open-source tools. They use Debian, Apache, Nginx, Exim, Redis, MySQL/MariaDB, and PostgreSQL in their stack. They often write their own tools using Perl (DBIx and Plack), Bash, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and rely on Git for process and revision control.

If you’re an exceptional Perl programmer in the Philippines with a passion for delivering high-quality work and a desire to learn and grow with a small and focused team, we want to hear from you!
