Software Engineer with Online Fraud Detection Experience - telecommute opportunity

Posted: September 29, 2020
Company name: MaxMind, Inc.
Poster represents: an employer
Terms of employment: Salaried employee
Hours: Full time
Onsite: no
Description: MaxMind (www.maxmind.com) is looking for a talented and highly motivated person to help us improve our minFraud risk score. minFraud is used to screen over 2 billion online transactions a year, the majority of those being e-commerce.

We are hiring anywhere in Canada and in the following US states: AK, CA, CO, FL, IN, LA, MA, MI, MN, MT, NY (excluding New York City and Yonkers), NC, NH, NV, OR, PA, SD, TX, VA, UT, WA, WV, WY.

The Position Overview

Our risk scoring is based on heuristics and machine learning. Your role would be to improve the heuristics as well as feature engineering for machine learning.

Potential improvements are back-tested against fraud and not-fraud reports from customers. Our fraud analyst team helps analyze the results and suggests improvements. This work is meaningful since even a small improvement can help customers reduce fraud significantly given our scale.

Our Development Practices

Currently most of our risk score code is written in Perl and runs on Linux. We plan to move this code to Go over the next few years. We maintain fast development cycles and identify small, incremental improvements that add up over time. All work goes through internal code review on GitHub Enterprise.

We use open source software as much as possible, and we release code back to the community when we can do so.
