Some people just want to get the job done, and you know what? That’s OK. Some people are happy to clock in, use old tools, and churn out mediocre code, day after day. I get that that’s some people’s cup of tea. Maybe you’re an ORM denier who wants to use CGI.pm and that’s *ok with me*.
But my client wants more. And while I’m not personally judging you, he doesn’t want to hire you. I want to furnish him with candidates who want to do something special. Candidates who keep abreast of new and interesting tooling (did you know Apple recently open-sourced FoundationDB? What problems would it solve for you?). Candidates who don’t just want work to be specified elsewhere and handed to them bit by bit, but who want to get ahead of the architectural process and build something truly special.
Based in Central London, the team develop a successful suite of services, are growing fast, and are led by one of a small number of people I’ve met who I truly respect as a technologist. Front-end systems are in React, back-end uses Catalyst and DBIx::Class, but if you’ve been playing with an exciting new technology you think would bring something to the team, you’ll be encouraged to speak up.
As with almost all my roles, I know a fair number of existing employees, and a fair number of existing employees are coworkers – they’re a bright bunch, but with a refreshing focus on doing things the right way, and pragmatically. The entire backend codebase is both Modern and mostly sane Perl.
