The organisation is set up as a not-for-profit association and the working language is English. The environment is internationally orientated with staff from more than 20 countries. We are currently seeking an experienced Software Engineer for our Database Group, which provides system and software development and maintenance for the RIPE Database and related projects. The successful candidate will be working in an environment with professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic engineers where getting things right is more important than just getting it done. This position is based in our office in the centre of Amsterdam. |
| Required skills: |
In addition to the general qualifications that you can find on our website, we are specifically looking for someone who has:
• A strong and demonstrated knowledge of OO Perl in a UNIX environment • Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL, particularly MySQL • Experience in software development, testing/QA and deployment processes • Some practical experience in C, networking and Linux environments (Debian/CentOS) • Undergraduate or higher degree in Computer Science or a similar discipline, or equivalent professional experience • Strong written and spoken English • Ability to learn quickly • Excellent team player We encourage applicants from all countries in our service region to apply. |
| Desired skills: |
• Experience in database performance tuning and clustering, particularly MySQL
• Experience working in agile development environments (XP/Scrum) • Experience with source code control systems (SVN/SVK preferred) • Experience and understanding of designing and implementing clustered, high performance (server) systems • Affinity with the Open Source community, preferably through demonstrated contributions • Affinity with the ISP environment and RIPE community • Experience with MVC frameworks such as Catalyst, database abstraction layers such as DBIx::Class and templating systems such as Template Toolkit. Contributions to the CPAN will also be considered a plus. |
