Description: We're looking for a Perl hacker in Tokyo to extend and improve our C2C digital content platform. Currently the codebase is Catalyst/DBIC/Mason and 100% Perl. We're still a small shop and we do about 2 days a week in the office together and then work offsite for the remainder. Ideally we'd like to hire someone with experience working remotely who can deliver well thought-out, well crafted code with minimal supervision. Compensation will depend on experience but we pay better than most development shops in Tokyo. We're still small so we can't offer relocation. sorry!
Required skills: You must:
Be able to talk with people about your code and explain the process you went through to create it

Know perl well, very well

Understand perl guts and be able to use them to your advantage

Have a solid understanding of scalable architecture, software, infrastructure and otherwise

have a business understanding of the Japanese language
Desired skills: exposure to Mason
exposure to Catalyst
experience writing unit tests
experience with operations
understanding of MySQL and database scalability issues
interest in architecture and design of applications
a desire to write eloquent code
exposure to or interest in agile development
a deep hatred for Java
conversational English
Experience with at least two of the following: shell, Python, JavaScript, SQL, C/C++,
